Your Artist Website Needs an SSL Certificate or Chrome will call it "Not secure"

Your artist website needs to be secured with an SSL Certificate.

I'm sorry to keep coming back to such a technical subject and I know that I've already written about this subject in the following articles:

* What is SSL?

* Why Your Art Website will Soon Need an SSL Certificate

Chrome Browser Now Adding Privacy Alert to Artist Websites Without SSL

I'll try to make this article more simple and to the point.

The Google Chrome team has now made an official announcement regarding how Chrome will treat non-secure websites.  You can read the full post here.

The most important revelation in Google's  announcement is the image they include that depicts the "eventual treatment of all HTTP pages in Chrome."

By "HTTP" they mean "Any website not protected with an SSL Certificate"

In short, what that means is that if you don't install an SSL certificate on your artist website, this is how Chrome will eventually display a warning to your customers:

See the big red triangle with the words "Not secure?"  That's what your website visitors will see in their browser's address bar.

If you're a FASO customer, we've already got you covered.  You can enable SSL today, for Free, by simply clicking, in the left hand menu, the option that reads, "Secure your website with Free 1-click custom SSL."

As far as we know, we are the only website builder that includes SSL out of the box, for free [1].  But being first, innovating, and taking care of artists is kind of our thing.  We have a history of innovating and leading the way in the artist website industry.  We did it when we introduced an integrated blog in 2005, or when we introduced integrated email newsletters, or again, when we introduced mobile-ready designs years ahead of other alternatives (heck, many artist website builders still don't generate mobile-ready websites).  So, while the other guys are figuring out how to offer Free SSL, we'll be busy implementing the next innovation for artists.

Sincerely,

Footnotes

[1]  Not even the big website builders you see advertised on television currently offer free SSL.  Heck they don't even offer a way to pay for SSL.  Perhaps they should spend less of their users' hard earned dollars on television advertisements, and more on re-investing in innovation and infrastructure.....

Thank you. You are the Best!

I will want this certificate when it is available. Please inform me as to when I'll be able to get it.

Why should we care what chrome wants?. I only use Firefox.

Harry - two reasons:

1. Firefox will do the same thing (and it's already been in discussion at Mozilla)

2. You have customers and site visitors who use Chrome.

I would think you don't want your customers to see a message that says "Not Secure" if you want to sell art. But, it is of course your choice.

I do want this certificate. Please let me know when and how I can get it. Thank you for telling me about it. Rit
