#1 SEO Tip from an SEO Expert

From Dr. Pete, an SEO Expert, on the Moz Blog (formerly SEOMoz):

my #1 SEO tip for 2013 was to diversify...If your entire business is built on Google, you're riding a wave that's eventually going to crash into the shore. It may be because Google changes the rules, or it may be because they fail, but you've built your future on something you absolutely can't control.  [source]

I prefer to build my future on something that I can control.  You should too.

Sincerely,

Clint Watson

FASO Founder, Software Craftsman, Art Fanatic

PS - Anybody looked at their search term traffic in analytics lately?   Yeah, it just says "[Not Provided]".  Google no longer provides search keyword data in it's referrals to your site.   Like Dr. Pete said: you can't control when Google changes the rules.  A more fun strategy is to play your own game.  Then you get to make the rules.

I had a feeling you would cover the Google keyword issue. :)

I read a business article about the situation yesterday... SEO gurus are freaking out about it. One guy described it as a game changer.

Okey dokes......I'm totally clueless when it comes to SEO and that's not good, I know. But, I am a young 65r.

So, truly, what IS something we can trust??

"I'm totally clueless when it comes to SEO and that's not good" - actually it IS good, for most artists, IMO, it's a waste of time to worry about.

"what IS something we can trust?" - your own mailing list, both email and regular mail. Build them nurture them, use them.

I stopped focusing on Google years ago, and spent my time building our newsletter, FineArtViews - which now goes to over 26,000 artists daily. That's a far more valuable asset than anything an SEO expert has ever been able to do for FASO.

Yep, totally agree.

So clueless in this instance is good; I'm happy!

Well, that IS reassuring. There are so so so so many things we have to pay attention to - SEO has always felt so "impersonal" to me.

Seriously, I can't keep up with all the changes made by Google, Facebook, etc. Glad it isn't a big deal anyway.

What is SEO? Very interesting and good to know. I set up my google blog originally because it was free and easy. Now I enjoy my FASO web site and the price is reasonable.

I'm glad to know you don't think SEO is all that important. It is also true, that if you create good content, the right key words will get found by the right people, and that's what truley matters.

My comment is very simple, what is the right direction for any Artist to take and get the appreciation for their craft
